How we handle a person's story.
These principles apply to every interview Voices of a Lifetime records, edits and publishes. They are explained to each participant before anything is filmed.
Nothing is filmed until the participant has read the consent form, asked their questions and signed it.
Patience, dignity and respect: before, during and after.
Everything set out below is explained to each participant before filming begins, and again in the Interview Consent and Media Release Form they sign. Nobody is asked to agree to something they have not had time to read and think about.
Sensitive experiences are handled with care. They are never used in a misleading, sensational or humiliating way simply to attract attention.

Informed consent
Before recording begins, participants will receive a clear explanation of the project's purpose, the recording process and where the finished interview may be shared.

Voluntary participation
Participation is voluntary. Participants will not be pressured to take part and may decline any question during the interview.

Distribution disclosure
The interview may be published on the Voices of a Lifetime website, YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, TikTok and other present or future platforms.
Published material may include full interviews, edited excerpts, short-form videos, written quotations, thumbnails and promotional materials.

Honest representation
Interviews may be edited for length, clarity, sound, pacing and presentation. Editing will not intentionally distort the participant's meaning or falsely represent what they said.

Dignity and respect
Participants will be treated with patience, dignity and respect.
Sensitive or traumatic experiences will be handled with care and respect. They will not be used in a misleading, sensational or humiliating way simply to attract attention or increase views.

Privacy protection
The purpose of the interview is to preserve the substance of the participant's story.
To protect privacy while allowing the story to be shared, participants may request that certain names, locations, family information or other identifying details be changed, omitted or anonymized before publication.
People who are not participating in the interview will not be intentionally filmed or featured.

Sensitive stories
Extra care will be taken when an interview includes subjects such as health, abuse, trauma, crime, family conflict, financial matters or other private experiences.

Withdrawal deadline and final publication
Participants will be given a clear deadline for withdrawing consent before publication.
Once that deadline has passed and the interview has been published, publication is final.
Consent can no longer be withdrawn after publication, and requests to remove the published interview will not be accepted.

Footage and information protection
Raw recordings, contact information and signed forms will be stored with reasonable security measures, and access will be limited to people involved in the project.

Accountability
Participants may contact Voices of a Lifetime before the stated publication deadline with questions, concerns or factual corrections.
Every participant signs before recording.
Every participant must sign an Interview Consent and Media Release Form before recording. The form explains the purpose of the interview, how the recording may be used and the deadline for withdrawing consent.
Participants will have time to read the form and ask questions before signing. Recording will not begin until the form has been signed.
